Life can be crazy.
We can have out of control, feels like a hurricane, will this ever stop, I just want to sleep, longest days ever. Maybe it's our jobs that are leaving us exhausted, maybe it's the kids running around the house, maybe it's the stress of trying to get pregnant and wanting to start a family, maybe it's the lack of communication between your spouse and you, maybe you are unable to sleep at night, perhaps the lack of finances and the monthly bills stacking up....whatever may be stressing you out, you're not alone.
"I'm so stressed out" is heard all the time. Everyone is saying it. "I just need some peace and quiet!" can be heard from many a mom as well.
In fact, looking at the American Psychological Association, American Institute of Stress here are the top 7 reasons people are stressed in the US.
When our bodies feel stressed we often react with the fight or flight mechanism and can sometimes cause even more stress based on our reactions.
I don't have all the answers to eliminating all stress in your life, but I do know that essential oils are here to help.
Which oils are best for stress?
Lavender: Lavender is often the first choice for people dealing with anxiety, stress and sleep issues. It helps promote peace with its calming effect. Diffuse lavender when feeling stressed or apply it topically to your wrists and behind your ears. Combine 4 drops with epsom salt and soak in a warm bath for at least 15 minutes.
Serenity:Â Serenity is the "restful blend" that doTERRA specifically created with a combination of many of the oils in this list to help you calm down and rest. Diffuse or apply to your neck and wrist to help promote relaxation and peace. This is often a favorite for people at bedtime, in fact doTERRA also has a serenity complex softgel that you can take before you go to bed to help your body relax.
Balance: Balance is the "tension or grounding blend" created by doTERRA to create a sense of well-being. This is another oil that is perfect to diffuse when stressed or to apply topically as well. It can help your anxiety as well as tantrums by the little ones. Many people like to start their day by putting drops of balance on the bottoms of their feet.Â
Aromatouch: This "massage oil" is a combination of oils which not only help relax your muscles but the scent helps you de-stress as well. As stated on the doTERRA website "To reduce the effects of daily stress, put a drop of Ylang Ylang or AromaTouch® and some Fractionated Coconut Oil into your palms and massage your hand slowly using the AromaTouch Hand Technique."
Frankincense: The King of all oils, frankincense is often thought of for meditation and calm. Apply to the bottoms of your feet and neck to help your mood swings and calm any anxious feelings. It's another oil that is great in the diffuser when trying to take care of stress.Â
Citrus Bliss: As an uplifting citrus oil, this combination of citrus and vanilla can help calm someone down during a high-stress situation as it reduces stress and helps with bad moods. Many people choose to wear this as a perfume or use it in the diffuser.
Vetiver: This is a very grounding blend as it comes from the root of the plant. Diffuse aromatically or combine it with other calming oils to apply topically and reduce stress.Â
Ylang-Ylang: Ylang-ylang is often used to help people calm down in a stressful situation. It is an uplifting floral scent that many people choose to wear as a perfume. It's also lovely in the diffuser throughout the day.Â
Bergamot: Bergamot is not only an encouraging and energizing oil, it can also be used to induce feelings of calm and contentment. Many people like to diffuse this oil when stressed to feel more relaxed and upbeat. It can be applied topically as well, just note that it is photosensitive so be careful in the sun.
Peace: doTERRA Peace blend, as hinted by the name, is used to induce feelings of peace. Many people have found this oil to be just what they need when stressed and anxious. Used with mindful breathing, it can be great for meditation. Peace also comes in a roller blend which is convenient for quick application when the stress is rising.
